Southwestern College Governing Board President Terri Valladolid has bid her final farewell to SWC.

After 16 years of service, her final governing board meeting was Wednesday, Nov. 12.

Board members and SWC staff said their goodbyes to Valladolid and welcomed Governing Board Member-Elect Griselda Delgado.

In a retirement ceremony earlier in the day, Valladolid was honored by city, state and national government officials. The City of Chula Vista and the County of San Diego declared Wednesday, Nov. 12, 2014 Terri Valladolid Day.

Southwestern College passed a resolution in her honor.

OTHER ACTIONS

Director of Office and Institutional Effectiveness Linda Hensley presented the California Community College Student Success Scorecard – which tracks student success at SWC.

Prop R Bond Manager Mark Claussen and Architect Tom Hefferman presented three potential wellness center designs. Art Historian Professor Mark Van Stone was consulted to design Mayan symbols for the building.

A whistleblower protection policy passed unanimously. The policy protects employees that report any “unethical, unprofessional and unlawful” activities from “retaliation.” ­

A new smoking policy was presented to the board for a first read. The policy would ban smoking on campus.

SWC’s next governing board meeting will be held on December 17.
