Damn, that’s a big Filipino!
Being 6-feet, 5-inches tall can be rough when one of your ethnic identifiers is how short we are.
Because I’m so big the racism I experience tends to be small. Direct racism is rare when your have the height and mass equivalent of NFL players. But it’s the little things that can mess you up. Interactions that most people would look over as little acts of ignorance have had a lasting impact on me.
For example this common conversation:
“So what are you?”
“Filipino.”
“You can’t be Filipino. You’re so tall.”
“Well I am.”
“That’s amazing. Do you play basketball?
I hate this conversation. I have it or something similar to it with too many people. Racism by 1,000 tiny cuts.
