Southwestern College’s combative website is getting a makeover. Designers hope for a path of less resistance.
Current website servers are more than six years old, so new hardware will usher in higher resolution photos and simpler navigation, said Public Information Officer Lillian Leopold.
“Whether or not students are website savvy or maybe just coming to school as adult learners and have been out of school for a while, my goal is for the website to be more accessible and easier to navigate,” she said.
Leopold said focus groups of students and staff have met for almost a year. Greg Harris, SWC’s web and marketing content strategist, said he welcomes the feedback. Sofia Guerrero, 23, a telemedia major, served on a focus group.
“I think it’s really cool that they got students involved in the process when it comes to choosing what new features and things that we would like to see improved on our school website,” she said, “because I really do think that it is important.”
Website revisions will give departments more control over their content pages, said Harris.
“Although we don’t have specific details on most of the new features being renovated, the main focus from a technical standpoint is new, current, fresh technology,” he said.
Harris said the website is expected to launch during the fall 2017 semester.
“Going through development and training is a long process, but it is an important thing that we want to get right so that is why we are taking all these proper steps,” he said. “I think it will definitely be worth it in the end.”
