Jags get into the swing of things

Southwestern College baseball fans are finding players offensive. Finally. Jaguar bats have come alive recently and powered SWC to a 5-2 win over Imperial Valley College. The Jags have swung their way out of a three-game slide with a win against Mesa College on March 16, followed by two more wins against San Diego City College.

“We have been playing better,” said catcher Cody Sos. “In the beginning of the season we’d hit good one day and pitch good another day and now we’re starting to put it all together.”

In their game against Imperial Valley College on Tuesday, March 27, the Jags showed hustle and the boost they need to get back on their feet.

“We just need to win that straight and then we’ll be in the playoffs and that’s what we’re looking forward to,” said outfielder Justin DiStefano.

DiStefano said the team is playing well, but needs to revisit the basics of baseball.

“I just need to take it down to the fundamentals again,” he said.

Outfielder Andy Swan agreed.

“My biggest enemy this year has been the mental side, just beating myself up too much,” said Swan. “I’m trying to take a new approach to the game mentally and really just work on the fundamentals and do the little things. Whatever helps the swing.”

Swan said he is feeling confident about the season now that the offense is heating up.“We’ve definitely been putting the bat to the ball a little more recently which is good because we were off to a slow start,” he said. “I think we’re heading on a good path right now.”

Jags play at Imperial Valley on Thursday at 2 p.m.
