In football, a team can only have 11 players on the field at any given time. Southwestern College had 13 football players named American Mountain All-Conference players.

Leading the pack was ESPN’s 10th highest rated community college recruit, Alfonso Hampton. The sophomore defensive tackle was a unanimous first-team all-conference selection after totaling 32 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 10 games. He was an unbelievable find for Coach Ed Carberry – the 6’5” 330 pounder did not play high school football.

Standout sophomore linebacker Khaalid Abdullah was also a unanimous first-team selection after accumulating 65 tackles and a team-leading six sacks. Abdullah won Defensive Player of the Game honors in the Jags’ Patriotic Bowl victory over San Bernardino Valley College.

Fellow sophomore Daniel Castro was another first-team selection. The ball-hawking safety led SWC in tackles (68), interceptions (5) and fumble recoveries (3).

Rounding out the defensive first-team selections were sophomores Jeremy Burgos and Diderot “Junior” Nemorin. Burgos, a linebacker, had the Jags’ third highest tackle total (43). Nemorin, a running back, was named the conference’s best kick return specialist, averaging 18.3 yards per return.

Sophomore running back Cedrick Agyeman turned his conference-leading 881 rushing yards into an offensive first-team selection. Freshman slot receiver DeSean Waters joined Agyeman after leading the conference with 56 receptions.

Agyeman and Waters could not have piled up those totals without SWC’s strong offensive line, a fact that was reflected in the selections. Sophomore tackle Kevin Bowen was the team’s final first-team member, while sophomore guard Vince Salinas and freshman tackle Ray Samuels were second-team all-conference.

Dual-threat quarterback Frank Foster was also named to the second team. Foster had more combined passing and rushing touchdowns than any other quarterback in the conference (28). His 10 rushing touchdowns were the second most of any player in the conference.

Sophomore defensive end Ray Clapper and sophomore cornerback Vicente Stafford were the final two Jaguars selected to the second team. Clapper had a very disruptive season, constantly forcing bad passes by pressuring the quarterback. Stafford earned his selection by leading the conference with 13 pass deflections.
